Years aboard Gurke: 1966-1971
Comments: Served on the USS Gurke 1966-1971 as MM2. At the time of deployment we worked with the USS Enterprise most of the time. I will leave you with my fondest memories. Once we had a barbecue on the fantail while anchored off South Vietnam and once while replenishing supplies a band on the supply ship was singing Gloria. The last ironical memory was when we were anchored on the Saigon river and listening to Saigon radio while helicopters were bombing the hills at night.

Years aboard Gurke: 1969-1971
Comments: The 1970 Westpac cruise was my 2nd and by far the best. So much has happened since my discharge, it would be great to hear from the old crew. My boiler experience in the Navy is what landed me the job I have now as an operator for the Detroit Edison.

Comments: Served in forward engine room until I had a run-in with Chief Holden, so Lt. Simmons thought it best that I transfer to after fireroom. I worked there under Chief Hamilton and Bob Barth. PS. Still playing my mandolin and hoping to hear from my shipmates. Been wondering where all of you are for a lot of years. Thank God, I have found this web page and it really is a good one. Keep up the good work.
