Comments: I well remember my tour on the USS Gurke. I worked for a Quartermaster First Class named Shubrook. I was a QM3 and made QM2 before being transferred to the USS DIXIE AD-14. While on the Gurke I reenlisted in the War Zone (VIETNAM). Hope to hear from some of my shipmates during that tour.. Before my retirement from the Navy I went on to the ranks of QMC, CWO3, Ltjg and retired as an LDO Lieutenant. My last tour was on the USS Yosemite as First Lieutenant.

Comments: I attended the last reunion in Norfolk Va and thoroughly enjoyed it.Looking forward to the next one. Had an opportunity to visit with some old buddies,Dick Flanagan,Pop Cline,Al Parker,Billy Ashley and many more. Memories come back fast when you get to discussing old sea stories, and some of them have taken a different twist through the years, but they still sound good. I believe we had the best crew of any ship in the Navy during my years aboarb the Gurke.

Comments: My brother, Clarence H. (Bud) Allen, served aboard the USS GURKE from (I think) 1951 to 1955 and made several cruises to Korea during the Korean War. I was in high school at the time and wrote him letters. I always looked forward to the letters he would write because they were very interesting.

Comments: Found your web site to be exceptionally interesting..and informative. I had the priviledge to operate with the USS GURKE in the Gulf of Tonkin while on the USS JOHN S. MCCAIN DDG-36. We were the gunline commander on Yankee Station at the time. Keep up the good work and hope your reunion is the best..God speed..

Comments: I was in Gurke's sister ship, USS Rowan (DD 782)from 1971-73 when both were members of DesRon 15. Gurke and Rowan fought a lot of night battles together during Linebacker II ops during 1972. Some of you remember the counterbattery assignments. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey to the crewmembers of a good ship. Gurke had a good and well deserved reputation.
