I have started collecting bits of information about the Gurke and the other destroyers I served aboard, so I will be revisiting this site in the future.

Comments: Greetings! I just found this site and I am completly stupified! My father served aboard U.S.S. Gurke in 1969 as a SN. I plan to tell him all about this site and how to get in contact with his old shipmates. I never would have believed that the ship would even still be around. because according to my father the ship was slated to be decommissioned and sold for scrap to an Asian firm back in the early 70's. Keep doing a wonderful job on the site and I'll have my father contact you further.
Thanks Scott Sommers
