Comments: I would like to see old Jim Royal again. I hope he is still alive. I received a letter from Douglas Pierce and a phone call from Duwayne Roberts. I would like to also contact Charlie Andrews and Joe Rohla. The Gurke was the greatest ship of all the ones I servered on. I retired from the Navy in May 1982 and I work for the Veterans Administration in the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building in Ft Snelling Minnesota. My home phone number is 612-869-6040 and my work number is 612-725/3973 or 1729 or 1879. Will be glad to hear from anyone who remembers the big boomer on the fuel line or the big mouth in the ship's office.

I am using my friends computer I am too cheap to buy one. Maybe one day I will splurge and buy one if I quite spending all my money chasing woman I am still as dumb as I always was. When it comes to women.

Comments: Thanks to this excellent site, I've gotten back in touch with some long lost shipmates and friends. If you're an alum of the Ron Berger/Bruce Sunderland administration, put me on your e-mail list and let me know if you're coming through Hartsfield airport. I was the Supply Officer the CO called "Chops" (Ron Berger) and the XO called "Porky" (Bruce Sunderland). There was something proud about this mint condition WWII-vintage ship. She wasn't as glamorous as some of her younger sisters, but she was a tough old sea dog that gave me one of the best experiences of my life.
