Comments: Does any body remember the time we were hit in the fantail while running from those three inchers and Captain Foote comented "you can tell which way we were going"?
I spent my entire time on the Gurke in the forward fire room checking the water. Does anybody have any info or know the wereabouts of (Valantag, Thornton or Clampett)? All served in the early 50's. THE FASTEST DD IN WESTPAC

Comments: I made one trip overseas on the Gurke, before being transferred to the DD 631 USS Erbin. But I DO remember that trip. We made ports at Hawaii, Sidney, Hong Kong, Yokusaka, Kobe, Sasabo, Subic Bay, Guam, Wake, and stopped long enough to refuel at Kwajalein. I've probably forgotten a stop or two. It was only 42 years ago.
